uAchieve Server Hardware Guidelines

This document outlines general hardware recommendations for the uAchieve Server. Many factors not related to uAchieve will affect your server choices, including vendor familiarity, existing servers, in-house expertise, available funds, etc. The items presented here are intended to highlight the additional factors specific to uAchieve that might affect your decision.

Platform Recommendations

Use hardware and software configurations where your institution already has expertise. Since uAchieve is a Java application, it should run on any platform where the Java 6 Runtime Environment (JRE) is supported. This includes virtual machine environments. See System Requirements.

NOTE:
The number of hardware, VM, OS, and database combinations is enormous, especially when considering the available versions of each. It is very likely that we have NOT tested your specific combination of them. However, if the Java 6 JRE is supported for your environment, then we expect the uAchieve Server to work. We have not yet run into a platform combination at a client site that causes a problem for uAchieve.

Windows, Unix, or Linux?

We have no particular preference between Windows and Unix/Linux platforms. If configured properly, uAchieve can work equally well in either environment. If you have expertise in all areas, then you likely have your own criteria for selecting the platform where particular applications will run. Use the factors below to guide your decisions, but adhere to your own criteria.
